The IYET is a multi-stakeholder engagement group that focuses on national level engagement on issues of youth in agriculture.
Together with the National Youth Council, IYET Conducts interactive round table discussions to inform policymakers. In November 2018 a Youth and Financial Inclusion Dialogue was held mainly to achieve the following objectives:
- To identify drivers and evidence gaps for youth access to finance,
- To explore pathways that will ensure effective access to finance through enabling and harmonized policies and strategies,
- To explore the different approaches employed to increase youth access to finance.
The above objectives would address challenges youth face in accessing formal financial services and exclusion due to a number of diverse demand side and supply side reasons including legal and regulatory barriers such as minimum age and provision of identification, lack of collateral, small irregular incomes, and high transaction costs among others. Youth financial inclusion is, therefore, an important development and policy issue that requires multi-stakeholder dialogue to address.
